Next Summer

In this scripted format, the myth of the idyllic summer holiday is turned upside down! Enter a young couple, set to take over the family cottage. It soon becomes evident that life in their new summer house will be less peaceful than expected, as parents and in-laws keep showing up, disturbing the serenity.

Next Summer is a humorous drama, full of recognizable comedy. The story centers on the tradition of spending summer at the family cottage by the sea, and plays on the sometimes awkward situations that arise when families gather with high expectations and low square footage.

The series addresses the tension under the light and informal surface, which often can’t be suppressed in the cramped quarters of cottages and holiday homes. The issues are relatable, such as the relationship with parents and in-laws, division of chores and maintenance work, often ridiculous house rules, and colliding views on how the summer should be enjoyed in the best way. The series is about our summer dreams about summer and summer holidays, and how it usually turns out differently than we planned it.
